Online Residency 2026
Research Residency: Maximum 6 participants per cohort
This is a live six-session program delivered in English over three weeks with two sessions per week and 1.5 hours per session. The goal is to develop an idea and research proposal reflecting the Venice Biennale’s theme this year. Designed for artists and creative thinkers who want to learn more with the Venice Biennale regardless of where they are based. Participants will engage in interactive sessions and develop microresearch and methodology for translating current curatorial thinking into their own professional practice.

Guide and Observation: Maximum 6 participants per group
This pathway is for those coming to Venice in person. Over two days, a guided mentorship built around observation of the Biennale. Each day consists of two guided visits of 1.5 hours each, with a lunch break between them. We will investigate the Arsenale and the Giardini as primary venues and extend beyond them to the national pavilions and independent exhibitions scattered across the city, building a comprehensive picture of the Venetian art landscape.
Included: Biennale entrance ticket and transportation pass.

What is the core focus of this residency?
This program is research-based learning conducted in English and centered on the 61st Venice Biennale. We focus on a methodological deconstruction of the curatorial theme this year, “In Minor Keys Curated by Koyo Kouoh.“
How many participants are in each group?
To ensure a level of focus and a pedagogical experience, we strictly limit the size of our cohorts. This allows for direct mentorship and meaningful connection between the community and the researcher.
Online Residency: Limited to a maximum of 6 participants per cohort.
On-Site Mentorship: Limited to a maximum of 6 participants per session.

The residency is open to every level of practitioner of artists, art professionals, researchers, curators, and students who want to deepen their understanding of how global art institutions and contemporary practices intersect.
Can I participate if I cannot travel to Venice?
Yes. The Online Residency is a six-session program delivered over three weeks, designed specifically for remote participation—full engagement with the research and methodology from anywhere in the world.
What does the on-site mentorship involve?
The on-site mentorship is a two-day observation intensive in Venice. One day is dedicated to the Arsenale and the other to the Giardini, with each day focused on attentive engagement with the physical works—their execution, materiality, and presence in space.
What is the Full Integration Programme?
The Full Integration Programme is the complete experience by combining the six-session online residency for theoretical and methodological foundation with the two-day onsite mentorship for on-the-ground investigation in Venice.
How are the online sessions conducted?
All digital residency meetings are held live via Google Meet. We prioritize a live format to ensure direct interaction and a sense of community among the participants.
When will I receive the access links?
Once your application form is recorded and your placement is confirmed, you will receive a “Welcome Toolkit” via email. This document will include the full schedule, the specific Google Meet access links for all six sessions, and the technical requirements.
Are tickets and transport included?
Yes. Both the On-Site and Hybrid Program pathways include your official Biennale entrance ticket and a transportation pass (Vaporetto).
Is accommodation provided?
Accommodation is not included, and participants arrange their own lodging. However, if it is your first time in Venice or you would like assistance, we work with a trusted partner to help coordinate accommodation in convenient areas of the city.
Online Residency:
The tuition fee is fully refundable if the participants cancel at least 7 days before the program start date. The registration fee is non-refundable, as it covers administrative costs and secures the participant’s place.
On-Site Mentorship:
The tuition fee is fully refundable if the participant cancels at least 7 days before the program date and 50% refundable if the participant cancels within 48 hours of the start. The registration fee is non-refundable.
Hybrid Program:
The tuition fee is fully refundable if the participant cancels at least 7 days before the online residency start date. If the participant cancels only the on-site mentorship component, 50% of the tuition fee will be refunded only if it is cancelled at least 7 days before the on-site date and 25% if cancelled within 48 hours. The registration fee is non-refundable.

Will I receive a certificate or reference letter?
We support and provide their research and participation in the program, suitable for use in applying for residency or professional portfolios and CVs.
